With or without braces, it is very important to brush and floss after every meal to keep your teeth and gums healthy. If you need help trying to figure out which is the best toothbrush, toothpaste, or dental floss for your orthodontic needs, don’t hesitate to call us so we can assist you.

Brushing With Braces

Brush your teeth for about two minutes after every meal or snack with a soft-bristled, small-headed toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste. For optimal results, you can use an electric toothbrush to get the best results possible. First, brush the inside and outside surfaces using soft, small, circular motions while positioning the head of the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gum line. To brush your teethes chewing surfaces, gently brush back and forth on the inside surface. Make sure to be very careful when brushing around your brackets or other appliances.

Flossing With Braces

Not only will flossing after every meal keep your braces clean, but it’ll also help keep your treatment right on track. In order to floss with braces you’ll need a floss threader or a special orthodontic floss to clean the remains behind the bracket. Wrap the floss around your pointer finger and begin to gently slide back and forth between each tooth gently until you’ve removed all plaque and food particles.
